Lemmy is giving me a heart attack. I hope he holds out considering the mans been on cocaine for probably 50 years
First the heart condition and now a hematoma. it was only a matter of time before everything finally started to catch up to him. I'm not the least bit surprised. Hope he recovers and continues being Lemmy for as long as he can!
the mans got a big twin harley motor instead of a heart. prolly just needs new plugs and a service.were rooting for ya lemmy.
For the record, I don't believe that Lemmy does cocaine. Other things, maybe. Not cocaine. Not condoning or condemning.
+1 Speed has been his thing forever. If you watch the movie Lemmy 49% MF 51% SOAB he said that even after his heart problems he isn't going to stop drinking and doing speed.
I suppose if you don't know what life is like without those substances, the world can be a scary place. He'll be in my prayers.
I love the guy but when you have done the things he has for so long, if he dropped dead today it would be no surprise. I hope he is ok though.
Cocaine is not an amphetamine. It and the amphetamine family are CNS (central nervous system) stimulants.
I used to be somewhat of a fan until I found out he had an extensive Nazi memorabilia collection and has made such stupid comments as: "From the beginning of time, the bad guys always had the best uniforms. Napoleon, the Confederates, the Nazis, they all had killer uniforms. I mean, the SS uniform is f***ing brilliant! They were the rock stars of that time. What are you gonna do? They just look good." And then he took it even further a few years ago by wearing a Nazi hat to promote a show in Germany. He's a fool.
Just goes to show you that you can't abuse your body for years on end. It catches up to you as you get older real fast. I hope he gets better cause the man can rock. I sat next to him in the mid 80's unknowingly at the bar in the Channel Club in Boston. He was smashed. He looked and smelled like he hadn't had a shower in a week. But he had 2 gorgeous blondes hanging all over him. I had no idea who he was so I asked the bartender who informed me that's Lemmy from Motorhead. They were playing The Channel the next night. All I could think of at the time was man those chicks hanging all over either can't smell real good or they are going some major torture right now. Anyways I hope he is ok and recovers. We have lost enough great bass players over the past couple years i.e. Entwislte, Duck Dunn etc. Don't need to lose another.
Not seeing the foolishness, personally, just true facts. Cultural artifacts are just that, artifacts - they need human thought to instill them with any kind of meaning. If he chooses to value them based on aesthetic alone, where's the crime? Nazi-influenced imagery is appropriated constantly in all creative fields, you're in denial if you don't see it. And it happens for the simple reason that, as Mr. Kilmister astutely observes in your quote, it works.
Lemmy definitely prefers speed not coke, I knew some guys who opened for them at CBGB's (I think, it was a while ago) and their manager came up and said they would extend their opening set by 15 minutes if they could come up with some speed. Their set was not extended that night.
What's foolish about it? Plenty of people have a fascination with Nazi aesthetics, technology, history, etc without seeing eye to eye with their ideology. It seems more foolish to not understand that the realms of ideology and aesthetics can be separated.
After doing a little research, Lemmy's not dieing. Dated 7-3-13 Mikkey Dee said Lemmy's statement, http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2013/jul/03/motorhead-cancel-tour-lemmy-health-hematoma
The author Vince Flynn just passed away at 47 from prostate cancer. 47. By all accounts he took care of himself, watched his diet, exercised. Lemmy is 67 and has not exactly been careful about his health since...ever. He chain smokes, drinks, does speed, all while fighting diabetes that was no doubt brought on by his bottle or so a day Jack Daniels and Coke consumption. All things considered I think Lemmy is a miracle and should be profiled by the AMA. I love the guy and hope he's back grinding it out as soon as possible. But the facts are that you can't keep that lifestyle up forever...okay, maybe Keith Richards can.
Being in Hawkwind for 4 years probably didn't help either! btw the new box set of Warrior on the Edge of Time is splendid and one of his best albums. Also has a postcard pic of him rockin the Ric that is really cool.
