pre-amp or overdrive(bass)

    im aboput to record with my band today..should i use my pre-amp or a bass overdrive for the best sound....

    Welcome to the board.

    On the (sparse) info given a preamp would be 'better'. We really need to know what equipment you will be recording with and wether you mean whats the best distortion or what's the best method of recording your sound.

    You are going to need some kind of device even out high/low impedance mismatches. You can do this with a DI, or a DI output on an amp (if it has one) or a seperate bass or recording preamp.

    DI Direct Inject.

    Or you can stick a microphone in front of your amp.

    can you name the bass, the overdrive and the preamp you are trying to use?
