Hello all, I have a Read Purity pre and Im desperately trying to find out what the output is on it??? I am told I need to know in order to match my power amp. I have a Stewart and it rocks, but I just bought a QSC PLX3002 as a backup and it has no balls at all compared to the Stewart, yet its rated considerably higher output wise. I read somewhere that there is a way to match my pre with different resistors ins intotalled my QSC. HELP!!!!!:help:

  2. If you RTFM on your QSC you may find how to adjust input sensitivity. You want a low number, for more sensitivity.

TB'er/QSC engineer Bob Lee can fill you in on the mod if you actually need it; you will need to take it to a tech who can work on surface mount components or send it back to QSC. The mod is pretty simple, just involves swapping two resistors if I recall correctly.

The output level of the Read will depend on what specific bass is feeding it, your various playing nuances (finger, pick, slap, EFX if any) what specific tubes are in it, and what input impedance it is feeding. So you will need to have it tested with all those things in play. That might take a competent tech about a minute or so to do, but I'd expect to pay whatever their minimum bench fee is anyway. I would take the power amp with me and verify output power at the same time, which might take your tech a few more minutes.

As I said in your other thread a few days ago, the Read I had here drove my QSC 1804 just fine. How high are you turning your Read and the QSC up?

Well ...IF I HAD the manual I would, but its not a setting thing anyways, it takes a physical change in the QSC to make it lower......as PASSINWIND stated. Nice to see you have a sarcastic sense of humor though............ya.

Bob has posted the details before, but I'm having trouble finding it right now. PM him or email tech support at QSC and he'll fill you in.

There are quite a few old TB threads addressing this, and a current generic one just a few posts down from this thread at the moment. It can be really frustrating, hang in there. It's actually one reason I started rolling my own bass preamps.

Just got off the phone with Bob Lee, what a great fella. Took the time to explain everything about the Amp. Pre signal, clipping, power ect. He was a huge help. Cheers to Bob Lee at QSC for helping me out!!!
