I have a Kustom GB1200 and a Dean Edge Hammer. It's a great head but I've encountered a wierd problem. On the pre amp side the bass is clipping the pre no matter what I set the gain at. But not tripping the signal light. I sent it to my service rep and he said nothing was wrong. So is this something the Pre amp in my bass is causing. If the amp is o.k. which I believe it is. What can I try with my bass to fix this problem. My bass is active. My rep plugged in a passive bass with no problems.

Argh I wish my bass had an active passive switch. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Do you get the problem with the Kustom's input selector on active and passive?

I know it may sound stupid but, try changing the battery on your bass and try another cord. If that is not the culprit, have the pre in your bass checked.

+1 But, another item to note is that it may be that you really are clipping the preamp section without triggering the clip indicator LED. I recently picked up a Groove Bass head (which I've already agreed to pass on to another TBer, but wanted to check out first), and it did seem like it was easy to overload the preamp (without visual signs of clipping). But, I just cranked up the master volume and backed off on the gain, and it sounded pretty darn good to me.

I did just change the battery not long before this happened wonder if I got a crap battery. And as far as the cable I will be pissed if my way to expensive Monstercable is bad.(I'll never buy one of those again.)

Thanks for the help guys. I still love my Kustom but I hate my Dean! Maybe LeCompte would trade me for that STSS-4 with the diamond plate. I will start saving my pennies to get something better soon.
