Pre Amp Vs. Power Amp

    I have been eyeing off an Ampeg SVP Pro Pre-amp but im not sure what the difference is between a pre amp and a power amp, can anyone help??

    Preamp:
    • boosts signal level to line level
    • makes signal low-impedance (buffer function)
    • EQ and FX (loop)
    Poweramp:
    • does the "real" amplification
    • speakers can only be attached to the poweramp
    • protections against short-circuit, thermal overload, etc.
    When you buy that preamp you definitely need a poweramp or another head, whose poweramp you can use.
