SOLD Pre-Gib Tobias Classic 5

    This is a beautiful 1991 pre-Gibson Tobias Classic. Maple w/ Purple Heart neck, Alder body and Bubinga top, Wenge tone plate. Serial #1661. Looks and plays incredible. All original. The hardware is black, however, the bridge has some slight discoloration from natural wear.
    I am a diehard Mike Tobias fan and I am only selling because I also own a pre-Gib Basic 5 and Mike is almost done building me a neckthru MTD 534.

    I sure will, There are only a few neckthru MTDs out there.

    This is my old bass and I can say that this is a wonderful sounding bass! You wont be disappointed with this one!! BUMP!!

    Very nice! What sort of top-end does the bubinga top give?

    I will tell you that this bass has incredible tone. The Bubinga is only an offset to the Alder body. The highs are "warmer" than my Basic but still crisp and articulate. The majority of the tone comes from the neck, and this is a Maple w/ Purple Heart neck with a Rosewood fingerboard. You own 3 of these masterpieces, need I say more.........?

    I sold this bass to Greg. Great guy to deal with and let me say this bass is a perfect example of Mike Tobias's best work. Tone for days and playability beyond expectation!

    Thanks guys! I am not really wanting to sell this, but my MTD 534 NT is almost done. I am afraid none of my other basses will get played once it comes in.
    Any of you players familiar with Mike Tobias' work, know this is an incredible musical instrument!

    Are all Pre-Gibson Classic 5s Alder? Just curious because everyone I have seen on TB has had an alder body.
