I'm going up to Edinburgh in December and would like to find a place to try:

    Ashdown RPM-1 preamp
    Trace Elliot V-type
    Warwick Quadruplet

    How much?
    Availability used?

    and lastly,

what are your opinions on these? I've surfed around on basstasters and have a rough idea of their tone. Which bass should I use as a closest reference to my Warmoth Jazz V (EMG40DC, BTC controls, Mahogany body, Koa neck, Pau Ferro f'board).

I'm not after a very zingy contemporary tone - more like a punchier Stuart Zender kind of tone.

I will also be looking to pick up a power amp there, probably the Ashdown APM1000 EVOII. Any suggestions on this as well?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

ashdown definitely... If you have chance to grab both, preamp and poweramp, do it.
  3. If anyone is is wondering, yes there is an Edinburgh in South Australia!

Nah....I'm referring to Edinburgh, Scotland here.

If I was going to Edinburgh, SA, I'd be going DOWN to Edinburgh. I'm on the West Coast.
  5. I haven't lived in Edinburgh for many years, but when I visit, and when I check out retailer web sites, Edinburgh does not leap out as the home of high end bass equipment.

Specialists like the Bass Centre have branches in London, Birmingham and Manchester, and there have been threads about who is worth checking out in the London area - you might have more choice if you were able to break your journey in one of those cities.

:smug: :smug: :smug: again , again. I will check if there is town called Edinburgh in Croatia too :p :p :p
  7. Personally I would invest in a good quality PA power amp from QSC, Crown or such. I don´t know how much APM1000 goes for in Edinburgh, but I´d bet you can get a QSC PLX with same amount of power for half the price. And the APM weighs 34 kg!

And no, there isn´t an Edinburgh in Finland. One part of Helsinki is called Arabia though.
  8. Didn't somebody say

"assume" makes an ass out of U and Me? :D

If you're going to be in Edinburgh, you might want to check out Glasgow too. Glasgow has a larger population, and IIRC more music stores than Edinburgh. Although it's been over seven years since I lived there, mind.

You may want to try and get hold of JohnnyBoomBoom - who lives in Glasgow and is a biggggg fan of Ashdown. He can probably advise.

There's probably somewhere in Edinburgh or Glasgow - if not then BassCentre in Manchester are pretty good and stock Ashdown (I got my last bass there).

    It's about a 3 hr drive.

i looked round guitar/bass shops in edinbugh when i was looking at the uni. the oly one i could find was sound control though. didnt have a great selection though. i know SC do ashdown cos i bought my asdown from SC in leeds.

instead of the RPM and APM why not just get an ABM 500/900? i know the ABMs are good cos ive got one myself!
