Hi, I'm new around here. I need a cheap preamp + DI for live shows. The musical style is quite varied, rock, pop, funky, proto punk 60s 70s Requirements: XLR and jack output, headphone output to play at home without disturbing, smooth distortion. I would like it to have a bit of distortion but very smooth. For price I have 3 in mind, the Nux Melvin Lee, Palmer Pocket amp and Electro Harmonix Battalion, although I am not very fond of the distortion of Battalion. Which one would you stay with and why?
I have an Ampeg SCR-DI that I like a lot for direct to FOH (the XLR as some frequency compensation). For practice it's really nice features to have aux-in and to run on 9v battery, so I'm not tied to a pedalboard or power outlet. The Scrambler part is very usable if you play with the blend knob.
Welcome to TalkBass!!! So you're looking for an always-on distortion? Or an always-on preamp with distortion you can turn on and off?
I'm looking a preamp with distortion that can turn on and off, even if not with double pedal, like Palmer Pocket amp bass.
