I am building a J style bass and want to use a preamp that will stick to the 3 knob j configuration. what should I go for ?

this is rear routed if that matters. I do not want any extra switches or whatnot...just three knobs.

    Stacked is OK

what kind of tone are you looking for?

most can be wired to stacked knobs.

cool. stack the bass and treble then do 2 volumes or a volume & pan.

Looking for tone that is modern, punchy mids and lows, crisp highs...

opposed to what most folks look for I's actually like a pre that colors that basic tone of the bass.

I'm using Norstrand J pups in this bass.

cool prewired makes it easy... and yeah, that's what I said (easy enough to do dual volume too). I prefer the pan to the individual volumes.

what would kill is a Push/Pull Volume for switching active/passive and then stack the pan with the lower ring as a passive tone knob

Looking forward to seeing the pictures Don. What's the wood choices for body/neck/board? Fretless I presume?
