For those familiar with installing aftermarket preamps in your basses.

I have a three band preamp that I acquired in a trade. Space is an issue in the bass that I am installing it in. My question is, could I only use two of those bands? Say bass and treble.
  2. That's possible, but it's also possible to get a concentric pot to use for two of those bands:

    two controls, one knob hole
  3. Yes. By cutting bass and treble, you are effectively left with a mid boost; by boosting bass and treble, you have a scooped mid cut. This is how it’s done with 2 band preamps.

However, like KBD above, I tend to think you will end up preferring the tonal variety you can accomplish using all 3 bands.
