    Hi,

    My current config:

Am. Std. J Bass --> Sansamp DI --> Presonus Firebox

There seems to be no middle ground for my bass tone. The sound is either really whimpy or too bassy and muddy. It sounds 'unclean'.

I do have a compressor and an EQ on the way... but I'm not sure if this is going to help me.

Because my bass is passive should I be using a *real* preamp? I was thinking about just getting a presonus tubepre. Will this help the signal sound 'clean' and 'clear' so I can better dial in the tone I am looking for?

    Thanks in advance! ;)

Hmmmm....I would think that that setup would sound great. I've used my 66 J-bass into my Bass Driver straight into my M-box with great results. Are you running your BDDI settings straight up/flat? Also, maybe back off of the blend...Are you setting your gain correctly? Maybe you could post some examples.
