Preamp selection - help?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Jure the second, Sep 25, 2002.

  1. I'm in the hunt for a nice and versatile bass preamp. I have noticed, that ashdown also offers a preamp. Has anyone tried it? Can anyone compare it with i.e. aguilar db659, demeter VTBP-201S...

    Thank you.

ashdown is almost twice cheaper than aguilar and demeter in Europe. If you want preamp around 1000€ try glockenklang bass art, i have one and it has very clean hi fi (near swr for example) sound and can be played flat. Ashdown is also very good preamp, but it is more vintage (crossing between ampeg and trace elliot) .
It is just my opinion, so do not take it as a rule.
Do not forget EBS and their classic-1 preamp

    Hi man!
Forget cheap Demeter, Alembic or Kern in Europe! I tried, but in a half year hunt I could not get under the grand. I would say Ampeg SVP-PRO of US stuff, but highly recommend Warwick Quadruplet (650 Euro new here in Czech rep., which by-the-way I am lucky owner), or used EBS or Glockengklang. I think, European preamps are at least on the same level, as the US.
    Anyway, good luck!!!
