    Pretty self explanatory.
I'm wondering what you guys think are the main differences tonally specifically. I bought a Geddy Lee Jazz over a Highway-1 Precision because I felt the tone was a bit edgier and had a punchier sound. Anyone find this was the case for them, or was I imagining things?

Nope you pretty much said what i feel about a Jazz vs P bass....no matter how hard I try to like or love a P bass I can't ...the Jazz has the punch and growl for me and thats what i need.

jazz basses are very good for all styles ofmusic, later if you get into funk or jazz etc. youll really find it easier to get a tone for the different tecniques.
the P bass for me is a good 2nd bass if you don't play a lot of Rock/blues IMO. its an out and out groove bass, although i have heard cats sound very punchy on them, you'll see a lot of session guys with an old P that has a added J bridge pickup to get the best of both worlds.
if you a real out and out rocker go with a P bass, though.

When I play them there is a huge Sucking sound like H. Ross Perot described when talking about NAFTA.

I've heard it on here before... it's not "Precision vs. Jazz..."

    it's precision AND jazz.

I prefer the J-bass tone myself.
