I currently own a GK700rb 210 combo, like it a lot, thinkin bout goin for a 1001rb head and a cab soon, but i just wanted to know what exactly does the presence knob on the voicing controls do???
The manual says it boosts some particularly high frequency, 500k or something. Silly joke, rather, 10k.
The implication was that active basses have plenty of top-end on their own and don't need a presence control (which is essentially a high EQ band) to achieve the same results. My passive bass has plenty of top-end with the presence knob turned off, so the point is moot for me.
I like it, but above 3 o'clock it gets a little to hissy for me. But it does add some bite/presense, especially to fingerstyle playing.
When I was adverse to using a pick, I used my presence to achieve a more picked sound with my fingers. What ended up happening was growing out the fingernails on my pointer and middle fingers and using lots of lacquer on them. 5 years later, I use a pick exclusively and the presence knob might as well be gone.
