Early 1980's 3/4 size, German, solid wood, all-carved upright double acoustic bass. Ebony fingerboard. Eb neck. Easy player. Really sings.

    Inside label says "Friedr Mendl".

Recent tuneup at David Gage including fingerboard planing. Gage's service pegged value at $6k. Open to fair offers.

Currently with Fullcircle pickup, but could remove. Includes custom, thick-padded case or could sell without it. Strung with Spirocores. Loud, fast and easy to play pizz for jazz, folk, alternative. Couple of bows also available. Nice bass. Once owned by avante garde bassist Kato Hideki.

Injury forces sale. Not going to be playing again.

Usual nicks and marks from a 30 year old bass, but no open seams, no cracks. Very solid bass. Can be seen in Northern NJ. Might come to you under the right circumstances. People ask me what it plays like. When I bought the bass, I'd auditioned a lot of basses between $2500 and $7000. It seemed that there were a lot of newer basses that were well built but didn't sing as well as this one in the price range. And there were a lot of older basses in the range but the older basses often felt a little fragile or needed work. This is a solid instrument. It needs zero work. It's easy to play in tune. Make me a reasonable offer. Willing to trade for a turntable of equal value.

I guess what they say about upright bassists in LA is true.

Bump. Not selling for less than this. People who've come to see it really like it.
