The arthritis has finally won and I am no longer playing so I am selling off some of my collection.

Up for sale is a sole authorship custom: #94 Moon Bass by Peter Malinoski

The body is crafted from 90 year old reclaimed douglas fir (and Peter has since found out that this wood is even older than that - but I will use the info that I was supplied by Peter when I purchased this bass new from him). Neck is Maple with Ambrosia maple headstock. Fretboard is Padauk.

    32" scale
    26 frets at 12" radius
    Delrin nut @ 1-5/8"
    Carbon fiber neck rods
Malinoski Type 1 HB pickups w/bridge transducer
    Single volume pot
Single tone pot with push/pull piezo activation
(all passive - this bass does not use a battery).
    Weight: 7lbs 5oz
    Original price: $2000
Purchased new by me in October 2012
    Comes with original case

Can you explain the pickup switching?

  3. Thanks for the question!

The pickups are switched via a 3 position toggle. Neck pickup, both pickups, bridge pickup. The piezo is is activated by pulling the tone knob out and it works in any of the 3 positions. It gives the sound more of an acoustic vibe when activated.

Some other things I forgot to mention:

This bass has not left my home and has never been gigged, dropped, bumped, or sworn at. It lives in a smoke free environment. I only played it for about one year or a little more - very light use. Fret wear is zero or almost zero. Two tiny scuff marks on the neck pickup case are the only visible difference since I got it, and they are tiny (and even look cool!) I'll get a picture of that up here on my next bump.

The neck is incredibly stable. The whole package just melts in your hands and is very comfortable. For someone looking for a custom quality medium scale bass, you can't beat the craftsmanship and amazing attention to detail on this baby. Especially at this price!

For payment: PayPal, Money Order, or Personal Check (as long as you don't mind waiting for it to clear).

  4. Here is a picture showing the slight wear on each side of the neck pickup case:

The one mod I did was replace the original knobs with genuine buffalo horn knobs (they have a nice streak of silver through the domes):

Fretwear? What fretwear??? This picture also shows the color of the Padauk fretboard today. It is slightly darker than when I got her 2 years ago.

The original knobs are included with the bass. I have all paperwork and even the original strings as sent by Pete.

    Thanks for looking!
