Up for sale is my amazing STR LS chambered 4 string fretless bass with spalted maple top, # 160. This is a custom hand made Japanese bass with incredibly high quality fit and finish and playability. 34” 3 pc maple neck, ebony lined fretless fingerboard, alder chambered body, spalted maple top. High mass brass bridge. 8.5 lbs 3/4" string spacing at the bridge Volume Blend Bass Mid w/3-position mini-switch Treble Active/Passive mini-switch . This bass originally came with one custom shop pickup and Aguilar electronics. I thought it sounded a bit thin so I installed two Bartolini pickups and Bartolini electronics. The pickups are placed perfectly, Jaco sound with the bridge pup and fuller sound with the neck pickup. New pups are slightly smaller than the original routing. Bass is in very good condition. Few small dents. The hardware was originally gold which I changed to black. I did paint the brass bridge black as a new black bridge would have cost over $200.00. Will ship in a good quality standard gig bag. These basses sell new well north of 3K. I have at least $ 1,800.00 into this one. $1,275.00 shipped lower 48 Paypal NO trades thanks !! Thanks Jim. Yeah, because it is not so well known......... Fodera "like" qualities without actually being a Fodera.
Oh boy. Maybe next time it rolls around (just spent a fortune on piano for child), and the $Oz is in the toilet at the moment. Whoever gets this will love it.
I was looking the other direction towards the Lakland 44-02 or the Tony Franklin but damn if I keep coming back to this beauty jibreel! I'm unfamiliar with open chambered bodies though. I've heard to feedback stories but again I'm not experienced with this breed..
This is a vastly better bass than either of those 2 (in my stupid opinion and all). OK, it's had some mods, but construction is easily comparable to USA Lakland.
I would expect the construction is quality..I wasn't a big fan of the Quad Bart I had in my fretted Growler. It didn't serve the rock vein too well and unfortunately when I had it defretted I didn't have it long enough to get to really know her. I love Aggie gear but I have no first hand knowledge on the thinness of their electronics and the Bart mod. I'm very interested but like I said I wasn't looking to go exotic until I saw this and started rethinking things
