I have problem with my bass. It seems there are certain spots on the neck that jump out much louder than the rest of the neck. This is very annoying.

    Can anyone recommend a solution?

It seems that I'm hitting the strings just as hard but certain strings at certain positions really jump out very loudly.

    would a compressor help?

The original post is several months old, but if you're still having problems it would help to know:

What kind of bass do you have? Do you find that the notes that stand out (wolf tones) are always the same or do they change with different rooms or cabinet locations within a room? Do you have some notes that sound softer or die out more quickly (dead spots)? How is your EQ? Have you tried different strings and if so, did that have an effect?
