problem with pickup placement in a jazz bass

  1. hi

I play a Mex JAzz bass and have owned it for a year and a half I bought it used , well my problem is that the neck pickup is a little to the left about half an inch ,its not perfectly centered as it should be , this causes the sound to be completly different on the E string when I play it with a pick in a downward motion it sounds pretty good but when I start playing upwards with the pick the strings sounds too bassy or boomy I dont know how to put the rigth words , anyway it sounds much louder , this also happens when i play with my fingers , I tried lowering the pickup on the E string but this doesnt seem to do much help.
so if anyone knows how to solve this problem it would be greatly appreciated .
