  2. Because Photobucket has chosen to in effect "take down" everyone's photos (unless you pay them), we have extended post edit time in the Luthier's Corner to UNLIMITED.  If you used photobucket and happen to still have your images of builds, you can go back and fix as many of your posts as far back as you wish.

Problems with my nut

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by 88tuner, Sep 3, 2004.

  1. I'm building a bass and I normally use the graphtech 6 string nut from Carvin. It measures 2.03 inches. The problem is that I typically build my own neck around the nut and bridge but this time I'm using a custom made neck and the spacing with this nut will be slightly too wide. I need to make my own nut or find a 6 string nut that is shorter than the graphtech 2.03 nut. Any suggestions on where I might get quick hunk of brass to make a nut or where I might order a premade nut to fit?

They sell nut blanks at stewmac.com, and you can probably find them elsewhere too. Search Google using "nut blank". :)

  3. Small brass stock is available at any hobby store. You can even get square "key" stock from hardware stores.
