Proper Setup for B-String

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by PhilaCPJ, Oct 12, 2005.

  1. I've got a Spector Euro 5 and I love it, although I'm still not as amazed by the B-string as I thought I would be. The tension's great, but I'm looking for a more piano-like tone out of it -- less boom/thud and more punch with some zing. I usually string up with .130 B's, so maybe switching to a lighter gauge is in order. Should I try lowering the string or raising the pups?

    Thanks,

See the "strings" forum for a lot of discussion on which strings are best. There are BIG differences. String height should be between 3/32 and 4/32 for in general, with slight relief. If the string is "double toning" below the 12th fret then you need to lower the pickups, otherwise they're probably OK.
