I want some nice bassy "GROWL" for my jazz bass. I want them to sound great with distortion and beautiful clean. So could someone please recomend me a set of pups that will meet what I want for my jazz V. thanks in advance.
What's your price range? There are many pickups that can give you what you want but some might be more expensive than others.
I would suggest the DiMarzio DP549 (I think thats what they are called) I have the ultrajazz 4 string pickups in my MIM jazz, and I really like them! IMHO they'll give you what you want, at a price you can afford. Get them at www.bestbassgear.com Tip; email Dimarzio for a diagram to wire those to push/pull volume pots, so you can have a series/parallel option for each pickup. It'll give you a lot of tonal options, while remaining passive. Brian at best bass gear has those volume pots. While you're at it, get a good switchcraft jack from Brian also, and you'll be all set. For not too much money.
what exactly is series paralell, and also do know of a place where i could hear recordings of the dimarzios. So these pups you suggested will add nice deep bassy growl.
well i was browsing best bass gear i found these and i was wondering how they are, what kind of sound would they make if i use them in a passive bass.
IMHO they will. I'm sure somebody here at TB has some recordings of their 5 string DiMarzio pickups. Parallel-a little less in the lows, but very clear tones. Some say almost bell like Series-fattens up the bottom end. May take a tad away from the highs, but a very fat, and punchy sound. I have no experience with Bartolini's, but someone here who does I'm sure can comment on it. Hope that helps!!
