    Hola!

I'm starting to get the parts for a Custom 5 String Fretless bass...
    I'm getting a Warmoth Deluxe 5 neck Maple/Pau Ferro
    custom shape mahogany body.
HipShot "A" Bridge, and Ultralite keys
Bartolini 5.2AP Preamp (Vol[a/p], Bl, Tr, Mid [push/pull freq selector], Bass), etc.

But I'm still not sure about the pickups... Bartolini is sure, but what kind... not yet.
    My options:
M45 (EMG 40 shape) soapbar (Classic Bass Series. Dual Coil Humbucker)
MK shape soapbar (Classic Bass Series. Dual Coil Humbucker)

The sound I'm going after is something like Jaco/Manring-ish:)

Any feedback will be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. I have a fretless Stambaugh 4 w/Barts(passive- no preamp)that, according to the original owner, are specifically designed for fretless. I'm not aware of the model number, but they sound great. I also have a fretless Stambaugh 7 w/a humbucking Aero in the 'sweet spot'; it also sounds amazing in passive or active mode. Barts will be cheaper & more readily available; Aeros are strictly custom I believe.

I like Bartolinis, I have some quadcoils in a DP custom fretless, very nice sound.

For this new bass I'm going towards the M45s, Classic Bass Series. Dual Coil Humbucker.

Any one willing to share opinions about these PUs?

    Thanks.
