i've been playing with a thumb rest for almost ten years, and i really would prefer to not mess with something that comfortable. is there anything i should know before trying to put a thumb rest on a mexican Jazz?

I put one in my old bass and just screwed it in. If you want to be safe though, drill pilot holes.

If I remember right it uses one existing hole and you have to add one new one. If you buy the original Fender thumbrest it comes with a little template to show where to add the hole.
