Pyramid Gold flatwound strings? Snapped during installation. Garbage.

59 dollars and an hour of my life wasted (purchase, pickup, swap, setup, and reversion will total about an hour).

The D string snapped at the tuning peg. Since 1979, it is the first time I saw this kind of bass string failure. So much for the Pyramid Strings reputation.

(Edit: [Now I will revert to the Curt Mangan set I was using.] I found a set of LaBella "1954" strings that I tried briefly on a through-body '51 type bass. Despite the bit of crimping from the first application, they're working out okay on this '57 type bass.)

Don't spend it all in one place, Pyramid; I will never buy a string of yours again.

I had an issue with Pyramid a few years ago. If I remember correctly, I bought a set for my Hofner, and something happened. I think it snapped also. It was the E string. I emailed the CS dept, but never got a reply. I didn't follow up, but never bought Pyramids again after that.

I had a pyramid string break at the peg head once (the string was a little too long for the bass and the fat part wound too far into the peg).

I emailed pyramid and their customer service sent me a custom length replacement that worked perfectly.

Pyramid strings aren't garbage. Crap sometimes just happens.

Contact who sold you the strings, or pyramid directly.

Hallo. That's correct, about the provenance of this set of strings. But for comparison, twice I installed sets of DR strings that were at least eight years old, both without any problems. That is, even if this Pyramid set were quite old, its performance was poor by DR's standard and for the money.

Thanks, Mark. It's too late for this set, though, since after the failure I destroyed all the strings. I thought it best to cull weak members of the herd (the herd of all bass strings).

Hello. Unlike your example, this was a D string which, at proper tension, had a few inches of silk to spare before the nut.

Maybe it's a false syllogism, but to my thinking it goes like this:

The string that broke was garbage.
The string that broke was part of the only set of Pyramid strings I ever used.
Therefore Pyramid strings are garbage.

Sometimes things like this happen, and it can happen with any brand. I had an e string snap on a set of Ernie Ball strings. Didnt stop me from using them again.

I would have perhaps left the 3 good ones on for a bit to try to see if i liked the sound of them. If they had a great sound, i would likely give them another try. If another string, snapped, then id write them off. Ofcourse if i didnt like the sound of them, then i wouldnt use them again anyway.

Did you tell pyramid about it?
I had something like that happen. I didn't even have to ask for a replacement set of strings; I was offered it on the phone.
