If Netscape was your default web browser, you might have spyware, and that spyware might have hijacked your web browser (in this case, Netscape), yet still allow IE to keep working.

I can't understand why anyone would rather have Netscape (which was bought out by AOL) than Internet Explorer (which was designed to work with the OS), but that's another thread.

If you can get out to the internet, do a Google Search and type in Ad Aware. The third link down will take you to download.com. Download and install Ad Aware SE. Make sure you have the updated reference file, and you run a "Full system Scan".

That's all I can think of right now...other than NetScape and Windows OS's do not always get along so well.

Step 1 - Uninstall Netscape and everything associated with it
Step 2 - Download and install Mozilla Firefox
Step 3 - Forget about popups and browser hijacking forever

You have rebooted since this started happening right?

  5. Maybe because IE is one of the worst and most unsecure browsers that exist... no wait... THE worst and most unsecure browser

Netscape is still a bit better, but Mozilla is many steps up from both.

I have a purchased version of spyware doctor that I use. I have completely uninstalled netscape (foresaking all bookmarks) and re-installed it. Same thing happens. I use a Sony Vio and have tried system restore to no avail :crying: .
I have rebooted and restarted so much I'm tied of doin it.
I also have spybot, and adware 6.0, a firewall that's not leaking in either direction! :help:

Well, since it's not working this is the perfect time to transfer to mozilla firefox. Might as well.

IE is fine. I find it alot more accessible than Firefox.

Keep it patched and Windows is fine. I run mine with 100% no problems, without the fire wall.

The main thing is it makes you more emo. Before Firefox I only wore clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch and listened to Dave Matthews Band and I didn't know what "brooding" meant. Now that I've been using Firefox I traded in my A&F clothes for tight short jeans and little kid t-shirts, died my hair black and got a pair of Buddy Holly glasses and I traded my DMB CDs for some Jawbreaker, Falling Forward, Lifetime and Rites of Spring all on vinyl. And you wanna talk about brooding? All my new Firefox emo friends say that I'm the best brooder of them all.

    Plus it has tabs.

Dump all other spyware utilities and ONLY use Ad Aware SE (not 6.0).

I see alot of PC's with too many spyware/firewall/anti-virus programs, and every one of them had web browser issues. They end up conflicting with each other and they will mess up your browser or winsock registry entries.

And, IE is the most stable on a Windows OS. And there is a reason why it gets attacked...and not because it is easily hacked...but because it is the most popular.

I'm not even going to get into a discussion with anyone who claims there is something better, simply because they don't know how to use their PC.

I NEVER have a problem with my PC and I'm online about 14 to 18 hours a day, and I don't ever have to "fix" anything. There are just some basic principles involved in using a PC that one should adhere to, but too many people like their Kazaa, porn, games, etc. and then wonder why their PC won't work.
