Q: What effect does neck wood have on tone?

  1. Inexperienced newbie to the forum, here. I searched a couple of ways, but didn't find anything concrete.

Might be good to check the luthier forum, but I'll offer my .02. I would guess that the majority of basses come with a maple neck (higher end boutique basses excluded of course). I'm not sure that manufacturers choose a neck wood or a combination of woods for it's tone as much for it's strength and stiffness (and beauty!). A stiffer neck=tighter, punchier sound(especially those B stringers=happier bassist!
