i purchased a chris aiken precision bass 2 weeks ago , right out of the box (factory sealed) i noticed black dots on the body n neck , try to wipe them out with different products n nothing ... also paint was shiny in some spots and not so shiny on others ... i really like the bass but i send it back to zzounds for another one of the same ... it came in today , and this one even worst ... bridge looks scratch , 3 black dots on the back of the body and something that looks like a scratch also on the top , back part of the body . just checking out here to see if any of u guys have a similar experience , im sending this one back again , for a 3rd bass , if not i will just ask for my money :(

I returned a VM Precision with tool marks and pits on the neck. Others I have played were not thus afflicted but nobody carried the P in-store and I had to order it.

My Squier was flawless when I got it. Lots of finish issues now but thats just 10 years of built up mojo from me.

Sounds like you need to stop buying basses online.

Went to GC, played half dozen VM Jags and Jazzes. Really wanted the Precision so they ordered it as GC does not stock it in stores. Based on the Jags and Jazzes I was expecting better, the Precision did not live up to those.

Mabye it's zzounds/AMS. I believe they're the same co. Same return address anyway. They went 0 for 4 with me: Casady w/ broken bridge; Casady w broken truss; Casady case didn't shut properly; Tele w an uneven nut on 1st string. I was going to try a third time w/ Casady because I lvoe that bass but I was starting to smell a jackass so went a different direction

may I ask you when the new squier VM's are released here? Any new CV's in the pipe? You don't have to answer if it's confidential.

When they went nuts with the Jaguar/Jazzmaster/Mustang guitars and leaked the world into a frenzy it ended up being a Summer NAMM announcememnt and a fall release. This time is a little different as Europe seems to have gotten them first, but Summer NAMM hasn't happened yet here, so we get a leak of different sorts but still have to wait.

At least having then on sale in Europe is a good sign they exist. Folks were up in arms last spring as to whether the leaked sixbangers were real or not.

On the CV front, all I want is a color other than Fiesta Red for the P bass. I get only offering representations of the few iconic models without changes or mods, but at least make a few more colors available. How about a Seafoam and maple P? Or if they must stick with rosewood at least give us burst and black, they already make black Freeman sig bodies in the same place.

The same with my two VM Squiers (minus the ten years of mojo). From what I can tell Squier has many (or as little) QC issues as any other mass-produced instrument and is not inherent in the brand.

well , i called zzounds , one guy told me they didn't have any issues with squiers another guy told me that they had a couple of chris aiken and other squiers turned in because of cosmetics issues and qc flaws !!! as far as buying online , i buy most of my stuff online as i tend to get better deals., lower prices and extended warranties !!! didn't have any issues with , ibanez bought online , bg250 tc e combo amp , and b200 acoustic also bought online ... i really like the bass , but i feel that if I'm paying $300.00 for a signature model it should be Qc'd the right way , it shouldn't be scratch ... look like its been used or with black dots and so many flaws out of the factory sealed box ... i will probably get my money back then .. now if it was used , b stock or demo ... different story !!! currently own a fender mim jazz bass , bought it used for $200.00 no problems or issues there ...

I have two great squires, one from 1999 and one from 2005. I think the past few years they have been making them cheaper and cheaper because they use very small tuning gears and the basses dont feel like the wood is aged at all. For a little more money i would try and find a nice used fender or squire but go try it out first!

send the second one back to them , now i just have to wait for the third one to come in and see if it will be up to standards ...

  15. I've got a VM Jag (purchased in store) and a VM Mustang (purchased online), and other than the setup the store gave the Jag, both basses were identical as far as quality, and I was very happy with both. No complaints as far as QC goes.

Good to hear on the Mustang. That is another bass I'd like but nobody locally stocks.

Yes, Squier does have QC issues....but, anything that is so mass-produced will have issues (IMO). I am not saying however that they don't have descent basses. I myself have owned several VM Jazz basses and a CV Jazz bass. I bought the CV several years ago and NEVER had an issue, but I went through 3 VM jazz basses within a month. The first one had a bad truss rod, the second had all the wires come off the electronics, and the 3rd one had dead pups. Then then 4th one came and it was almost perfect. So, they are not consistent across the board. I will say that the 4th VM was a really sweet bass and did what I wanted it to and I had no complaints about it. I also liked the VM 5 that I had for a few weeks just to have a passive 5 J bass.

  18. Yeah, I have the same issue. Nowhere locally stocks short scale basses, same with the Modern Player range. Aside from maybe one MIM per store, there's usually only Squier and MIA, which is a pretty big jump.

also , neither guitar center or sam ash have this specific bass available ... that is why i had to buy online ... i look on GC , Sam Ash n MF and they didn't have the chris aiken p bass on their catalog , at all ... i had squiers in the past without any issues or complaints ... not trying to diss squier basses ... lets wait n see if i finally get a decent p bass if not i will send it back n grab my money , go different route !!!

Hiya Chuck, Sorry for the slight delay in reply. I'm not sure about your 1st question....are you seeing VM's elsewhere and not here (not even sure where "here" is for you U.S i take it?)? If there are, let me know and I'll be happy to check it out.
Can't really tell you about anything in the pipe either, our Marketing folks let us know a short time before we release stuff and yes, many new products are kept confidential before their release for various reasons.
On the plus side, what I CAN say is obviously, people here are reading posts. Voices and opinions are heard and do have some influence.
    All the best,
    rob
