Would a 400watt "pro" amp from swr(goliath series) be better than an extremely good swr(workingmans) that is 800 watts? Is quality over quantity? awsome 800 watts or better 400 watts?

Solid state poweramps don't differ that much in sound. The preamp shapes the sound more.

Amp ratings are not normed though. One company rates its amps more conservatively, others tend to exaggerate.

Unless its a real POS poweramp, more power is more power.

P.S.: Are you talking amps or cabs? There are no Goliath amps...

are you talking about a goliath III 4x10 vs. a WM810 like you were in the other thread?

if so, the 4x10 handles 700 watts, not 400. i'd personally go with the 4x10 - it sounds heavenly and is practically just as loud as the wm810.

holy crizzap! apparently the 4x10 is a good bit louder!

    the goliath III is 105 dB SPL @ 1W1M (-3dB @ 40Hz and 15KHz)

    and the tower is only 93 dB SPL @ 1W1M (-3dB 60 Hz & 13.5 kHz)

lolz, yeah, actually the tower handles 750 watts, compared to the goliath III 700 watts, the problem i am having though is with the head? anybody know a good head that dishes out 700 watts?

Holy dyslexia - something tells me that should be 31.5hz!

Though i'd clear that up before someone jumps on with "why would you want 13.5 hz. Human ears can only hear as low as 20" :p

    OOPs 13.5 K, not KZ - I'm an idiot

  9. Well, there you go!

Anybody who puts their ears lower than 20 inches can't hear. I assume one is then stone deaf with their head on the floor?

I use an SWR SM-500 on my Goliath 3. Since the cab is 8 ohms, it's putting 400 watts into it. However, it. is. loud.

you could assemble a 1000+ watt rack unit for around $800 bucks if you bought new, much cheaper if you bought used.
