So I had this urge to build something but no access to proper wood because of lockdown. And two unused shelves in my garage, from an old IKEA IVAR shelving unit.
    Guess what happened :D

I already had most of the supplies lying around, most notably a G&L neck bought from a past G&L "scatch and dent" clearance years ago, and a G&L MFD pickup I've bought cheap from somebody. The only logical thing was to build something similar to a L-1000!

This is what was there at the beginning:

the shelves are too thin to use as a body (20 mm each), so I decided to glue two back to back for proper body thickness.

Then some sloppy work on weekends and evenings happened:

And then it was done :)

    An artisanal microbrewed organic Wunkay!

The controls are: Volume - series/split/parallel switch - Tone.

3 kg 400 grams or 7,49572 lbs in outdated units. It's really light!

Shaller Ultralight tuners make it reasonably well balanced, so neck dive isn't an issue.

  7. Nice!! IKEA is known for their good joinery/laminate work, and use quality wood as well. I’ve been using a dis-assembled day bed for straight rails for jigs for years now.

Built-in multi-lam / butcher block vibe! How can you beat that?!?

Hmmm....I have a king size 4 poster IKEA bed in the master bedroom. Wonder if Susan will notice...

No way! Once a year, I tighten up all the joints with the provided hex wrench. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way. The reference may be lost on those who are not steeped in the IKEA experience.

Nice! I have an 83' L2k, a tank in every good sense of the word, but it's heavy. Luckily, well balanced too. The weight has me not playing it much as I get older, but there is no more versatile bass availble. The 1k is also a superb bass, and I really like the home brew aesthetic. A worry-free bass, as any naturally occurring dings or wear will only improve the look. Sounds great too. :D

This one has enough dings already :)

If there are some more - no bid deal indeed!

    Thanks!

I'm pleased with the result - the bass is comfortable and sounds great (and looks fun), what more can you expect? :)
