The release of the KL3012 has been much anticipated by bass cab DIY'ers. Thanks to bgavin's post of TS parameters WinISD can now spin at a zillion rpm Please post your WinISD(other software) projects and your observations. Voicing for standard tuned 5-string bass (beadg) for - studio tone - live tone Now to the poll: Which is better for 5-string bass guitar ? ok, let's go !!!
Perfection is such a relative thing. Really depends on what your after and your music style. What about the new Celestian line? Orange back or Green back any one? P.S. I voted Eminence because they are the speaker brand I have the most experience with.
I look forward to the waste of potential these new Em drivers will probably see in commercial bass cabs; } Having not seen the datasheet graphs of the 3012HO and 3012HF I can only comment on how they work with porting. The LF is a medium-power subwoofer just as the 3015LF is, and it's basically 58% of one in output in around 58% the net internal space. As such it'd probably work well with one Alpha 6.5" midrange cone. The final box size would be more like 66% of an equivalently aligned 3015LF if one wants porting that won't waste this potential nor chuff. 2 of them will be pretty much like a 3015LF in size and extension but present a 4-ohm load, would work well with either two Alpha 6.5" drivers, or one 18 Sound 6ND410. The 3012HO really appears to be a light-on-low-end driver that extends considerably less into the sub-100 Hz region than its bigger brother the 3015. As such it's better suited to compact PA mains and monitors. So I expect we'll soon see them in use in bass cabs ; }
This poll is sort of misleading as there is not enough information. Are these speakers to be used standalone, part of a 2 or 3 way system?
The new Eminence KL3012 models look promising, especially the 3012LF with a 6.5 midrange. I checked out bgavin's post but didn't see power rating, sensitivity, and useable frequency range. Any numbers for these?
Pe = thermal power rating Sensitivity and "usable frequency range" are best taken from a graph derived from standardized testing, in conjunction with speaker simulation for the effects of a box, ported or otherwise. EDIT: Actually the "usable frequency range" spec on cutsheets is a joke because it doesn't reflect off-axis response or meaningful LF response. It's grossly exaggerated. Myself, I wouldn't use that driver for a low B unless big FOH support was present. Actually it's already rolling off above 80 Hz in a BW3 alignment so even for a 4-string I'd not be that thrilled.
I'm not very good with all the Tech. Specs but would you recommend the Beyma 12MWnd for low B application?
Got the full T-S parameters? Beyma datasheets are a PITA to find. And here in the US the drivers are so expensive for their performance that I often don't bother to search for them unless I have a specific project in mind.
Sorry, I would post them here but I'm using an iPhone and can't copy and paste. Anyway, I believe Al at US Speaker has them listed on his website. www.USSpeaker.com
You can't do much when key parameters are missing, as they usually are on reseller sites. Luckily I finally got that crap Beyma website to give it up - the pdf files there are often mislinked - or used to be anyway. That driver actually looks suitable for "full range" bass guitar use. Classic Bw3 alignment shows 1.606 cubic foot box tuned to 52 Hz, starts rolling off above 90 Hz and is -3 dB at 58.75 Hz. Not inspiring in the LF, and some people would miss not having a midbass hump as well. But it does perform well as regards excursion.
Would you get a little more going on in the LF region if you put two of these in a cab? I would assume it would go a little lower.
K, I wasn't sure. My assumption was incorrect. Are there other 12" Neo drivers you would recommend at a lower or similar price point that would compete or beat the Beyma specs? I know that's a pretty broad question but just in your opinion. Would you spend the money for the Beymas or go a different route?
what make s you say that ? and which driver(s) are referring to ? Edit: I know, I picked the wrong Faital Pro... it should be the 12 PR300, specs are here, though in all truth it competes rather with the the Eminence basslites or Deltalites..
have you got the current spec on the Beyma 12 MWNd ? They have changed (or corrected) the spec. This is the correct one
