Has anyone seen the blue sparkle P-Bass with the mirrored (chromed) pickguard? I saw it on Vh1's Cover Wars series and it is so nice looking. Can anyone give me information on it? (Price, availability, year made etc)? Thanks

Umm, I can't say about the color of the bass cause I don't know. I do know two things, however:

    1. The mirrored pickguard is something you can buy in a bass/guitar shop. I've seen them before at multiple places.

    2. Weezer does indeed rule.

These are all the things I know. Nothing more.

that would be a custom shop bass. You have to buy it from the Fender Custom shop, hence the name. They are like 4 grand and you can't just buy them, you have to have them custom made buy an expert dude in California.

  7. Chill. Usually you can ask about a bass here at TB and chances are someone might have one.

You could have done that without putting yourself off as a jerk.

No Problem man. I live in Arizona, and there is a place called the Bass Place in Tempe, a nice shop that isn't a chain. They have/had such a pickgaurd there, among multiple others. I don't remeber seeing it there the last time I visited, but I was looking for my next bass, not customizing my own, so I can't say for sure. I'm amusing here, but I would say a similar shop where you live would have such a pickguard. Someone more experienced should correct/back me up on this: there are good bass stores that are online that would likely have that pickguard in stock, or at least have connections to order one and ship it to you. Places like www.basspalace.com or perhaps www.bassnw.com would be good places to email if the local shop option wasn't available. I don't know too much about those places, except the rave reviews I hear from Talkbassers, and have no personal experience with them. I'm sure if I'm totally wrong I will be corrected soon.

More than likely, what you saw was the Steve Harris signature PBass. Lake Placid Blue Metallic finish with a Claret Red Mirror Pickguard. It is made in Japan, and lists for $799. I think Musician's Friend has them for $569.

    Yeah, 2 arew Sadowsky's & 3 are Warmoth's. :p

Hey BassmanJoe, you can find the pickguard @ places like www.allparts.com, www.warmoth.com & you can go to a local music store & have them order one. If you're in the mood to build you're own "Custon Fender", Warmoth makes GREAT Fender licenced parts & I have 3 GREAT Warmoth basses.

P.S. Let's stay on topic, children.

    In your basement.
I think Stu. . .Bassmonkee nailed it.

That is just funny. From what I hear Sadowsky makes a great Fender. :D

  16. I notice that whenever I see reissues in gear mags, it says that they're custom shop basses... are they in the same league as other custom Fenders? I was reading in a Fender catalogue about master builders and a bunch of madness I didn't pay much attention to. I think I'll stop now before I confuse myself even more.
