On the early basses, when Warwick were using EMGs, what was the control setup? And what was the preamp they used? Also, when did they swap over to MEC?

I think I knew the answer to this at one point, but I forgot. There is also something about the early necks, but I can't remember that either. Wenge, Ovangol, something about the woods.... sorry, I'm not help :crying:

I used to own an '88 Thumb with EMG's, and it's control layout was a Volume knob, a Blend knob and stacked Bass/Treble knobs.

    Hmph. :meh:

Now you reminded me that I no longer have it. :(

    Thanx.

    ;)

Okay ..... let me help out here!!! :D (Did a bit more research!! ;) )

What I do know (or I think) is this.

They had a 2-band preamp. The controls were volume p/p (active/passive), balance, and stacked treble/bass (cut/boost).

Can someone confirm whether this is correct?

But what I definately don't know is what preamp they were using. And I'd also still like to know when the swap over to MEC happened.

Thanks ..... or should that be "danke"!

    Perfect! Thanks!

That confirms the first part of the question.

So ..... do you know what the preamp was?

I can't be sure, but I seem to have a gut feeling that the preamp was also an EMG design.

Why do I think this (emphasis on the "think")?

It has to do with the MINI-FUROR I remember erupting among certain Warwick afficionados when they changed over to the MEC system.

Yeah, I kinda guess it would be an EMG preamp, but I've not had much luck confirming it anywhere.

    But thanks anyway.

No, seriously... sometimes you find yourself between the proverbial "rock and a hard place", and you got no choice but to make sacrifices.

    Now...

Didn't mean to rub salt in it, just wondering. Same reason I sold mine(HUGE MISTAKE), but I'm back on the prowl for a replacement.

Ok... I sent an email to Warwick's Tech Department asking about what preamp my particular '88 Thumb equipped with EMG's would've had.

    Their response:

So there you go bassaussie... straight from the "horses'" mouth, so to speak!
