Question about EQD Monarch OD

I recently purchased this pedal thinking it would allow me to get a vintage/creamy overdriven sound with a little dirt, like a mild distortion. I made my decision based on several online demos where the pedal sounds really nice with bass (all passive basses).

I do not get any dirt out of the pedal, it is just working as a very loud boost with a nice EQ but no distortion whatsoever. I am no expert in effects, but could it be this pedal does not play nice with my setup? I run my bass (active, nordstrand PUPs) through a phil jones bass briefcase...Is perhaps a fuzz a better solution for what I seek? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  2. Sounds like there's something wrong with the pedal. There should be tons of dirt available.
  3. Agreed. Either the pedal, your bass, or your ears, are broken!

Are there internal trimpots that control the gain?
