in the interest of getting the lowest possible action is it okay to have a bass setup with no relief (when using the fretting the first and last fret method of checking relief) if there is no string buzz? are there any downsides to setting up a bass like this?

    thanks for your help.

If you can get it to work without buzz, no problem, it'll work fine.
Anthony Jackson promotes this idea of bass setup.

There is no fundamental flaw in a zero relief setup. My fretless four has almost none.

Thing is, it is really hard to make it work. depending on your style of play. But if it is working for you, use it.

I would imagine that good fret leveling would be crutial to make it not buzz with no neck relief.
