I was talking w/ a guy who works at a local music store about the infamous Spector Tone Pump - specifically, how he likes it & how I'm not so crazy about it. He said he had performed the infamous 'Tone Dump' by switching to the BQC System, but ended up preferring the Tone Pump sound & swapping it back in, thus leaving the BQC preamp sitting in his drawer at home.

I asked him if he'd be willing to sell it. He said he would... for $50! :hyper: The next day, he brought it to work with him, I brought the cash... sold.

Looking it over, everything seems to be there (it's a 4 knob configuration), however in some photos I've seen the system has two circuit boards (one big, one smaller), while the system I just bought only has the bigger of the two.

Am I just misinformed or should I asking this guy for the remaining piece of the puzzle? :smug:

Thanks in advance for any help/info you can provide me with! :)

Can you take some pics of the setup in question?

The other thing this could be is:
Maybe he had the BQC control (2 stacked pots, only one circuit board with no volume+bal or vol+vol , although he may have taken them out already wired) and added the balance and volumes (or 2 volumes) himself.
Of course this is what I would guess without a pic.

The difference between the two is the vol and bal are pre wired on the system, vol and bal are not included on the control (just in case you put it in one that already has vol+bal or vol+vol, with no need for a prewired)

Either way, $50 is a good deal!

Unfortunately I don't have a camera handy, but I do have the system here in front of me so I'll try to describe what I'm looking at. :smug:

Four pots in total (two of which are stacked) and all the knobs. The circut board is directly attached to the one of the stacked pots & wired to the second (wire colors, if this helps: brown, orange, yellow, blue, grey, purple & black 'whew' :D)as well as wired to the the battery clip (wire colors: green, red, black & white).

The other two (non-stacked) pots are wired to each other, but that's it (just a black wire & a white wire going between the two).

    Hope this helps a little.

My answer would be He had a BQC control, added the vol+bal or vol+vol (I believe that the 2 added pots are vol+vol, though. At least from your description) pot himself. All the XXX (BTC,BQC and BQS) controls by EMG only have one circuit board.

I plan on slapping this into a Rebop 5... so you think it would be okay to keep the current Vol/Vol setup & just swap out the bass & treble pots for these?

BTW - thanks for your help, Jason.

Yeah, It should not be a problem (I liked the vol+bal better, i've been used them to for many years), you already have a stereo jack in the Rebop (Emg necessity for their electronics). Just follow up with this, If you have a problem:

Any other problems, PM me, or go to the "tonedump" thread.
