Question about tone on a used bass

  1. So I keep hearing all this praise for the Peavey Millennium series basses, but mine is 16 years old, and used. I remember the guy it was bought from saying it was “like new” and “never played”. The bass sounds nothing like any recordings of others of it’s model, like something’s missing from the tone. Why could this be?

  2. Always start with different strings.
What works on your other basses may just not get along on this one.

Pickup height adjustment goes a long way, too.

kodiakblair and Garret Graves like this.
  3. Put a fresh pair of batteries in it too. Set the tone knobs to their centre point and gradually -/+ each to your taste.
