I wrote to Cort... twice. No response. Can anyone tell me the difference between their AB850F and their SJB-5F ? Look the same in pictures. Specs read the same. Both still available according to their website. Thanks!

If you look at the specs side by side on the website, the SJB-5F has Hipshot Ultralight tuners.
No mention of the tuners on the other model.
    Just a guess.

Yup. But odd that they would make two models with different tuners being the only difference. Could be that the AB is the entry level and has other cost cutting going on too but I can't tell from just looking on line.
I just scored a new SJB6F. It is clearly the upgrade of the SJB5F. The electronics are fat with features. Also some nice asthetic touches. I have had many different acoustic electric basses. The Cort is the best playing and sounding. Not twangy. Not nasal. Very even volume across the strings. Just a very fat tone with a clear fundamental. So I'm looking for a second Cort.

Yep. I see that they don't mention the Ultralights on the AB model. Seems odd they would make two similar basses with the only difference being the tuners.

I'm thinking that maybe the AB model is the entry level. I would think there might be some other cost-cutting but I can't tell from just seeing it on the internet. Looks like the same wood. Maybe something in the crossbracing. I figured someone here on TB would know.

    Or name brand strings.
The SJ also specs "solid" spruce top, they don't say that on the AB, which may be read as "laminated" spruce top.
Sound hole rosettes are different, as well as lack of third position dot inlay on the AB.
