I'm looking at picking up a Sadowsky Metro RV4 (gotta have the rosewood, and strictly a 4 string guy), and here's my conundrum. I'm trying to get my hands on it quick, as a 40th bday present to myself, so I don't want to deal with ordering from Roger. The one's I've found in stock appear to not include the VTC already installed. My question is, what's the *real* difference in having the VTC, and will I really jones for it if I order an instock Metro without it? My normal technique is fingerstyle on flatwounds, with about 60% of the treble tone cut, but both pickups on. TIA, mondo
My personal opinion is that VTC really works, and for 150 bucks Its Worth!, but you can always buy it without the VTC and install it later.
It's an add on item on the Metros that your dealer can install now or later. I like having the VTC on my MV4 since it give me another option tonally. Jeff
Since the Sadowsky pre is boost only, and given the description of your sound preference, I would think you would want it... even the RW/Alder basses can be a little bright IMO, and the VTC can really tone that down for you. I understand, as others have said, that it's a pretty easy add on at any time.
ah yes, my inclination has been to get it added, but therein lies the rub. The GAS attack in advance of a birthday in seven days...argh. KJung's advice is sound.
I agree with KJung, given your sound preferences sounds like something you'd want. I have one in my RS 4 and I find it very useful. I'd like to hear input from someone who has used the VTC and also plays/played with flats. Your use of flats may make the VTC less necessary. I use rounds, and even with the treble on "0", I like the VTC to mellow things out!
HI By your description, it would work for u. It can always be added later. I, personally, could care less about the VTC. No thanx. I own 4 Sadowsky's. None have it. None of my 13 have had it Rob
Mondo, You could ask the dealers of the basses you've been looking at. They may have a supply of VTC's to be added if customers want them... The addition of my VTC didn't add any significant delay to my receiving it.
Guess I need to make some calls, then, because I'm either going with the CAR from Elderly, or the LPB from Bass Central. Those are the only colors I'm interested in, and each has one in stock. Oy vey, though...that's the decision that's *really* killing me. CAR or LPB, LPB or CAR? The CAR is really sweet, but the LPB is the color my first ever bass (a '95 Fender Mex Std J) was in, so I've got an attachment to it. But damn, that CAR is beautiful. Without having called, I imagine Bass Central would be quicker about putting the VTC in. Thanks to all for the suggestions thus far.
Not in any way meaning to be disparaging to Bass Central, but Elderly has an excellent service dept. too. But Bass Central is a TRUE Bass store. I am going to take the run up to Elderly Saturday, a guitarist friend of mine wants to check some stuff. It is probably the best acoustic guitar store on the planet.
HI The Basscentral guys have always treated me like a king. I'd call them for any bass needs. Can basically get you anything U need. Rob
If you cant wait, get the damn thing! You can always add the VTC later and you get the bass for your b/day BTW the Sad pre is boost only..
I just got a MV4 Metro with the VTC and I'm glad it's there, maple can be very bright/snappy for my tastes and a little VTC goes along way.
Okay, I'm sold on the VTC...now I just gotta a) pick the color and b) *really* talk myself into it. I deserve it, I deserve it, I deserve it...just keep telling myself that. Thanks for all the input
You will not regret buying one IMO. Don't hesitate for a moment. ***edit*** I will warn you though. It is a powerful addiction! I just switched in June and have had four already.
