I stripped out a screw on my pickups. When this happed it got metal shavings all over the pole pieces. I got most of it off but I think some of the metal shavings got down in the crevice between the cover and pole pieces. Will these metal shavings damage the pickup or cause future damage? There is not a lot, but I am pretty there is a little that got pushed down there. thanks
FWIW: The most probable damage would likely be with removeable covers with the pups out of the bass where the loose covers could grind the shavings through the winding insulation. While in the bass or with fixed covers I'd say fat chance of any potential damage. I had a set of pups once a guy had apparently taken steel wool to the poles to try and remove rust from them (I can think of no other reason steel wool would be around the poles and on the windings). Didn't make any difference in function.
