Maybe this should be on the String Forum, but I guess it is more of a setup question. I just restrung my 35" scale bass with a set of D'Addario Chromes. The choice was Super Long Scale, and have the winding on the E peg too long, or Long Scale and have the windings on the A and D strings slightly too short. I went the Long Scale route because the windings on the A and D strings dipped only slightly below the nut (1/8"). The E and G strings extended just to the nut without touching it. Here's my question: I stripped the silk and pulled it back on the A and D strings so that there was no silk sitting in the nut. The strings do not start to taper until 2-3" past the nut. It sounds fine. Just wondered if this was the way to go, as opposed to winding part of the E string on the peg. Thanks.
