    Hello to all
    Probably the Forum
has been treated in this part of the subject ... Have you ever done an AB test between a Mexican and an American jazz both with the same pickups?
Apart from the feeling that surely must be a little 'different, but the sound difference is due the pickup? Usually, when I try both at some store, the sound is better in the American made ... More fuller, more defined ... But this difference may be due only in pickups (alnico vs ceramic) ... so potentially if you found a Mexico that is good built and good assembled as God intended, with a good upgrade might sound better than a standard U.S. ..
    Or not?

.. if you A/B two American Jazz basses with the same pickups, you can pretty much count on one feeling and sounding a little 'different than the other ..

... if you A/B two Mexican Jazz basses with the same pickups, you can pretty much count on one feeling and sounding a little 'different than the other ...

... so, if you A/B a Mexican Jazz bass with an American Jazz bass with the same pickups, you can pretty much count on one feeling and sounding a little 'different than the other ... now that is where it gets to be a personal thing ... what feels and sounds better to one person, may be completely different than what feels and/or sounds better to the next ...

... with all that said, not all Mexican basses use ceramic pickups, only the MIM Standards do, and there are several that use alnico's, in fact of those several, some even use the exact same pickups that are used in American basses ... pick up a Classic Series 60's or 70's Jazz bass and compare it to an American Special Jazz bass and you will have the same pickups, with just about everything else in some degree different ... than you can pick and choose which components you like best about each bass, and decide your preferences from that ...

... BTW, one mans 'upgrade', may be another mans less than desireable 'modification' ... ;)
