Gk with hartke xl cabs I was using a wrong setup: intrument cable to the speakers I did not know tha was wrong, once the amp made a paff sound and stop working. At that moment was not important. Now I am using speakers cable but perhaps I damaged the amp before. The amp sounds good but when I boost the treble of the musicman (with the treble of the GK flat), it makes pffff" or "hiss sound Does a gk make a hiss or paff sound when you boost the high frequencies?? A hartke head trough a hartke xl cab I play yesterday at a practice room, does not make that hiss or pff sound when I boost the treble of the musicman. Perhaps the hartke has a filter. I need the opinion of hartke and gallien krueger users! Thanks!!
How many threads on this topic? Your amp is fine, high frequencies make hissy, Quit the over the top anxiety attack. Everything was settled in one of the last couple of threads. No need to continue worrying. Get some sleep, it's ok.
i've used an instrument cable for my svt at a show (not a good idea) but the only thing that blew was the cable. i think your amp is fine, the cables are just not built to handle that much voltage.
Hi Langueta. Try setting your bass' on-board EQ flat and use the amp's tone controls for ALL your EQ needs as per the start-with-all-EQ-set-flat, turn-up-the-amp-to-a-gig-volume-level, and then lightly-EQ-the-amp-to-compensate-for-adverse-room-acoustics-and/or-competition-from-other-instruments dictum so often repeated here on TalkBass. BTW. If you ever multi-track record your band live, you'll thank yourself during mix-down for having set your bass' on-board EQ flat...
Why the hartke head I play don`t make any hiss or pff??? It is from the practice room and don`t know why it has an interference of some radio station..
I think that GK's are for the most part slightly scooped. If the the Hartke isn't, or is actually somewhat midboosted, then treble boost will be VERY noticeable at higher volumes. Does it interfere when you are at practice or gigging volume? If not, then who cares? It'll be covered up.
The Hartke uses a different design than the GK. Try setting your bass' EQ flat as per my last post. If your GK will play LOUD & long with lots of guts and power then no significant damage was done via your former use of an instrument cable to connect your GK's cab. Is your GK picking up a radio station? If so, does it do this everywhere?
The new GK amps have a fail safe, and if they detect a drop in impedance or a short, they will go into protect. even if the original cable got fried and created a short, no damage would occur.
