For a Fender MIM jazz bass. What kind of bartolini pickups would I need to get? Will it fit exactly or will I need to get some modifications done so the pickups will fit. And how much do they usually cost?

Depends on the year the MIM jazz was made. Some have two pickups with identical size, some have each pickup a slightly different size from each other.

yup, measure your neck and bridge pickup lengths and then go to bartolini.net and find the set that match your dimensions.

I would have the bass routed for "normal" J pickups if I had one of the older MIM J basses with the equal-sized pickups. That way you have the option of putting any standard J set in the bass.

That would be pretty expensive. Not only do you have to route without damaging the finish, but you also have to change the pick guard. I think that it is better to just measure your pups and go to Bart and find the correct ones.
