Are they really that good? Why Fender changed them for the dual coil ceramic pups in the most recent American Deluxe model? Does those ceramic ones sound much differente from the SCN? the funny thing is that Fender is still using the SCN in the left handed model...
I don't know about the dual coil ceramic pups but the Samarium cobalt noiseless pups (installed in all Roscoe Beck basses) are probably the best by a long shot pup that Fender used on their deuxe basses, the problem was the SCN pup is made by pup maker Bill Lawrence and deluxe basses were serverly (sp) back ordered. When I got my FMT V Fender only had three in stock! It is possible they went with something they could get off their shelves quicker.
I have also a-b'd the noiseless against the scn pups and here is my take. Both pups are very clear and distinct, the scn pups sound even more "vintage" than the "vintage" sounding noiseless. The scn pups have more bottom and are a slight bit warmer than the noiseless pups.
I haven't tried them yet, but the SCN pickups were designed by Bill Lawrence. Bill knows his pickups!
thanks and thanks!! It is good to know that the left handed version now is better than the righty counter part
