***You can skip this part, long rambling excuse as to why I have to ask these questions*** The last head I bought was a Peavy Mark III in 1985 or so, which was pretty high end and advanced at the time. In 1993 my son was born, I had pretty much given up bands, and stopped playing, moved on to other things. A couple months ago a reunion show came together for an old band, and I pulled out my Mark III. It blew a fuse and I took it in for repairs, needed a new cap and it was good to go. The show was fun and a big hit, so we talked about putting it back together and have been rehearsing. My amp starts crapping out after a couple hours though, and the cab is too heavy for this old man nowdays, so decided to get something different. After much consideration, I decided on a GK 800RB with a 115RBH and a 410RBH. Only... I don't have the 410RBH yet and picked up something on the cheap to fill in until the right deal comes along. ***************************** OK, THIS IS WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS ***************************** My 800RB will be here Monday, and Monday night I have rehearsal, so I'll be figuring it out at rehearsal. Not the best situation, but it is what it is. I have a RBH 115 cab and an Ampeg SVT 210 cab to fill in until I can get the right deal on a used RBH 410 I downloaded the manuals for all of them. The Ampeg is rated at 200 watts @ 8 ohms. The 115 is 400 watts @ 8 ohms. The manual for the 800RB talks about the 2 amps and bi-amp capability, but I've never even used one. Something about speakon cables... the Ampeg has a 1/4" in and out is all. What's the best way to hook the cabs up, configuration-wise? What cables do I need to have on hand? ******************************** More excuses and stuff that doesn't matter ******************************** Yes, I know it sounds idiotic to buy a head I've never even tried out. I'm trusting a friend who knows the sound I like and has one, but he's off on a camping trip and can't get ahold of him until too late to ask.
115 into [email protected] out 210 into [email protected] out OR One cab into each [email protected] out Try both and decide which sounds better.
the Gk rb800 has 100 watt @8ohm outputs for mid/highs and a 300 watt @4ohm outputs for lows but will run full range via a switch on the front panel ...i use to use 2x15 cab @4ohms through the 300watt low output and a 4x10 cab @8ohms through the 100 watt output ...very versatile amp so you could also link both cabs to give a load of 4ohms and then plug it into the 300 watt @4ohms output on your amp and then run it full range ...it should sound great enjoy
