Quick bass question

    I am looking for a bass, preferably a 5'er, that will give me a broad range of tones;
    for example, going from a geddy lee-type of tone (think cygnus x-1) to the god-like (IMO) tone justin chancellor has on Tool's song The Patient. ( I know thats like comparing apples to oranges)
    And please dont tell me to go get a WAL or some other high end custom made beauty, cuz im not that rich, but any suggestions would be helpful

    Id suggest a G&L , either Tribute or regular.

    ....Well, as you may know already, Justin plays a Wal, and Geddy used one for recording(according to the friendly folks at Bass Central, down the street from me).......sooo, maybe a Stingray5?

    To quote a review in some guitar magazine on the StingrayV..."It sounds like church bells shot from a cannon"

    ....How cool is that?
