Quilter has announced a new guitar head that might be interesting for bass: OverDrive 202

We have some players on TalkBass using other Quilter guitar heads, like the Tone Block 202. If anyone has gotten an OD 202 and can share your thoughts, do so here! 1-quilter-overdrive-202.png

From the product page: "The OverDrive 202 picks up where the Overdrive 200 left off and features three new voices with their own overdrive channel, reverb, limiter, and a cabinet simulated line out. The three voices range from the newly enhanced Quilter classic Full Q on voice 1, the "bell-like" harmonically rich voice 2, through to the incisive and full bodied attack of voice 3." I'm wondering what those voices would sound like for bass.

Earlier today, I emailed Pat Quilter to ask for his thoughts for this particular head used for bass. Will share what he has to say.

Pat Quilter's reply, 6/28/2020: "There is no technical barrier to using the OD-202, or the Tone Block 202, as bass amps, as long as you understand that they are mainly voiced for guitar use. You will get a warm old-school tone with more harmonic richness, compared to the deeper more solid range of the Bass Block. If you use overdrive tones creatively for bass, then the OD-202 would be an interesting choice indeed, whether using the overdrive channel, or even the clean channel at higher Gain settings. You can even go between two kinds of drive, both responsive to your guitar volume as well as switching the Limiter in and out. . If you decide to try the OD-202 we’ll be interested in your findings!"

I have a TB202 for guitar and cello, but I keep finding myself using it for bass as a quick and easy way to record multiple instruments. I've been playing for online church services quite a bit, and playing through the 202 is more convenient than dragging my Tascam to the basement where my bass rig is, or bringing the bass rig upstairs.

I put it in frfr mode, turn on the Barber Linden, and have a totally workable bass sound through the onboard DI.

I'm interested in how the OD202 will stack up, though I have a Mesa TT-800 on order and probably can't justify another amp...

Same quandary- I was looking at the TT-800 before the OD 202 was announced.

Wow I wish the bass heads were as aesthetically pleasing as the guitar heads. That thing is a beauty!
