Quoting a post

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by Rick Martin, Aug 26, 2001.

  1. How the heck do you guys quote a previous post?
If I want to respond to a previous post, I go to that post and hit the little Quote icon that looks like a cartoon speach baloon. I usually only want to use part of the previous post and I select and delete the parts I don't want. I add my 2 cents and when I post my reply, the quote is not in bold print with the originators name. What gives wit dis?

Dunno. Sounds like yer doin' it right :) .

    Cuttin' & pastin' is fine, just don't delete the [ QUOTE ] [ /QUOTE ] parts.

When you click the "quote" baloon a new window opens up. In the bottom left corner there's a link for vB code. It explains how vB code works here.

Or, what may be a simpler way for some is to use the buttons that are available above the new message window... you have bold, quote and several functions that are now automated. For instance I used the "http://" button to make "vB code" above an active link;)

  5. Ouch! I left in the Quote Quote part and it still did not come up as bold.
  6. If I hit the Quote icon in a previous post and do not edit that post then I get good results.
  7. If I delete part of a previous post....well let's see what happens...

When you are cutting out the part of the quote that you want to use, make sure that you don't accidentally delete the [ B ] at the start of the text. That is is the vB code for bold.
