  1. I just wanted to extend congratulations to my favorite baseball player, one of the most prominent sluggers of our (all) time. 3,000 hits, over 560 HR's, a .290 career average, and playing in at least 143 games a year since 1987. An unheralded player who will finally get the attention he deserves, (I think us bassists can relate to this), he will be a first ballot inductee into Cooperstown one day.

    You're the man Raffy!

  3. Raffy's swing is just beautiful. One of the best hitters in the game, and he makes it look absolutely effortless.

    Congrats to the man!

Fitting that he got his 3000th against the Mariners. Without the Mariners pitchers to beat up on over the years, he would have been an average player. I hope he gives a shout out to the Mariners when he gets inducted to the Hall of Fame. :)

They showed on ESPN that the day he hit number 3000 his first at-bat he walked. The whole crowd booed their pitcher for not giving up a hit. :)

It's a great moment and I envy all who were there. RP is a class act (despite the Viagra commercials).

I remember I was in the crowd at Veteran's Stadium when a visiting Cincinatti Red player named Pete Rose hit number 3000. The Philly crowd gave him a 10 minute (minimum) standing ovation.

Palmeiro just got suspended 10 days for violating MLB's steroid policy. Five months ago, he told Congress, "I have never used steroids. Period." :meh:

(EDIT: corrected 10 games to 10 days)

Woopsie! They'll all start falling like domino's now. Part of me thinks they have been waiting for Bonds to come back from injury to start nailing these guys. I guess someone decided not to wait, and go for it.

  8. he's on the juice!!!!!oneoneone!!!

    He's suspended...

BUT, he never knowingly used a banned substance....

And Bonds was just using an arthritis creme and dietary supplement.

    uhm... yeah... :eyebrow:
  11. :D

I'm not happy to see it, but the truth isn't always fun, I guess. That "never knowingly used 'roids" excuse is really getting old, too.
  12. Rafi just got seriously owned.

Worse, he lied to the US Congress.

I wonder if Congress will pursue any punishment on their end?

Likely not. They'd have to prove that he knowingly lied at that time. For all we know he was clean at that time, and was clean up to that point.

If anyone comes forward with evidence that shows he knowlingly used steroids prior to his testimony, then they could go forward.

Clay does make a good point, and it is not because he is having a problem with it. I am not an expert in steroids, but I can say the following. The type of steroids in question here do not make you see a 90MPH fastball better. Those same steroids do not increase your hand-eye coordination, or reaction time. For baseball players like Rafi, Bonds, and Sheffield, steroid use was never to help them play baseball. It just gave them an edge in training and daily performance.

    steroids would cause muscle growth.

you need to be strong... but if you have big arms, your swing is slower....

    meh. i dont care.
